Taiyaki

A Taiyaki (たい焼き) is a japanese street foods cake you can buy everywhere around Japan.

Originally created in 1909, Taiyaki is an evolution of the traditional Imagawayaki, a round dessert.

Its creator used then a fish-shaped representing a Tai(たい) which is a sea bream because it is considered as a symbol of luck and fortune in Japan.

Taiyaki is made of pancake batter baked into some fish-shaped mold then filled with various ingredients.

Traditionally it is filled with Anko(餡子) which is a sweetened red bean paste.

Shops will mostly offer custard and sweet potato filling as well but since a century, taiyaki evolved in size, shape and filling ingredients.
